OUR HISTORY
BUILDING A LEGACY
UA Local 228 Plumbers & Pipefitters was founded on October 7, 1905. Edward Hillock, General Secretary and Martin Durkin, General President of the UA played instrumental roles in establishing UA Local 228.
Founded in the historic city of Marysville, CA, UA Local 228 has called the greater Yuba-Sutter area home for more than a century.
In 1987, UA Local 607 (Chico) chose to consolidate with UA Local 228 and in 1997 UA Local 662 (Redding) merged with UA Local 228. The merger of these three organizations resulted in Local 228 covering a significant market share, covering thirteen (13) northern California counties.
In recent history, some of the most significant projects for which UA Local 228 has played a key construction role are:
-
Oroville Hospital,
-
Hard Rock Casino-Hotel at Fire Mountain,
-
Calpine Power Station and Gas Distribution Pipeline,
-
River Valley High School,
-
Chico State (several campus buildings),
-
Butte College (several buildings),
-
Rideout Hospital,
-
Maxwell Power Plant,
-
Premier Mushroom Plant,
-
Wild Goose Storage Project,
-
Gold Country Casino,
-
Feather Falls Casino,
-
Colusa Casino Resort,
-
Sunsweet Growers,
-
Chico Waste Water Plant, and
-
Knaff Fiberglass Plant.
The success of UA Local 228 would not have been possible without the many contributions of all our current and past officers, project foremen and working members, including:
Elwood Bradford, Bill Douthat, Gary Fennel, Brett Guerrero, James Gholson, Tom Johnson, Bryan Kenyon, Mark Mulliner, Kenny Rex, Nick Taylor, James Thompson and Robert Wein, to name just a few of so many.
